A commemoration ceremony in honour of Prof. Adriano Bompiani, promoter of the foundation and first President of the National Bioethics Committee established in 1990, was held on the 26th of September 2013 at the “Sala Polifunzionale” of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
The ceremony was opened by Prof. Francesco Paolo Casavola, President of the NBC. His alumni intervened at the ceremony: Profs. Salvatore Mancuso, Alessandro Pasquale Margariti and Giovan Battista Serra who retraced the long career of Bompiani as a physician, gynecologist, University professor, director of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Catholic University, a tireless scientist and scholar, as evidenced by a wide scientific production.
Dr. Gianni Letta illustrated the political-institutional profile of Christian Democrat Senator for four terms between 1976 and 1990 and then Minister for Social Affairs under the Amato Government from 1992 to 1993.
The bioethics profile of the Professor, father of Italian bioethics and reference point of international bioethics, was described by Prof. Casavola and Angelo Fiori.
The ceremony was closed with a personal memory of two of his closest collaborators, Dr. Daniela Mango and Mrs. Franca Barrano.
